What can be recycled: Recycling Guide

To ensure an efficient recycling process, here's a guide of acceptable recyclables and what not to recycle.

Acceptable Recyclables

Paper

  • Newspaper, office paper, junk mail, magazines, paper bags, wrapping paper, envelopes, milk and juice cartons, and cardboard (flattened).

Plastics

  • All containers with recycling symbols labeled #1 - #7, water bottles, milk jugs,  and detergent containers.

Glass

  • Bottles and jars of any color.

Metals

  • Aluminum cans, tin cans, aerosol cans (empty) and clean aluminum foil.

What not to recycle

Contaminated Materials

  • Items heavily soiled with food, grease, or waste

Plastic Bags and Wrap

  • These cannot be processed with regular recyclables and often require special drop-off locations.

Styrofoam (Polystyrene)

  • This includes food containers and packing peanuts.

Hazardous Materials

  • Batteries, paint cans, and chemicals must be disposed of through specialized programs.

Electronic Waste

  • Cell phones, computers, and other electronics require special disposal methods.
